Wed, 05/09/2018 - 12:00pm Lyndon House Arts Center, Athens, GA Heritage Foundation to present brown bag on Baldwin Hall Contact: Kimberly Davis 404-906-6176 Athens, Ga.-- The Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation (ACHF) will host a Brown Bag Lunch about the slave remains found during an expansion at the University of Georgia’s Baldwin Hall. The luncheon, entitled, “Baldwin Hall: Present and Future,” will take place at the Lyndon House Arts Center on Wednesday, May 9, from noon to 1 p.m. Invited speakers include those who have worked to shed light and push for reconciliation over the excavation and reinterment of remains first discovered in 2015. Confirmed speakers include Athens historian Fred Smith, Sr., Athenian and Clarke County School Board member Linda Davis, Laurie Reitsema, assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Georgia, author and activist Mokah Johnson, UGA Vice President David Lee, and Vice Provost Michelle Cook. Prior to the panel, ACHF will screen a portion of a documentary, “Below Baldwin,” that was produced as part of the Doc U class this spring. The Brown Bag Lunch program offers an opportunity for informal and open dialogue between members of the ACHF and the community at-large, in cooperation with staff from the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department.
