Congratulations to Isabel Mann, who is completing her summer internship with the Athens Land Trust. Isabel is a triple major honors student at UGA expected to graduate in 2018. She is currently earning her bachelor's degree in history and religion, while also earning her master's degree in history in a special honors prgram. Ever the high achiever, last year as president of Phi Alpha Theta's Epsilon Pi, our UGA chapter of the National History Honor Society, Inc., Isabel was instrumental in getting undergraduate and graduate students galvanized to work with several local community based service efforts helping to restore and maintain historic African American cemeteries in the community. Curently she is also organizing a new service organization for similar projects, which she hopes to have implemented this year.
"This summer I interned with the Athens Land Trust and worked with their high school program, the Young Urban Farmers," Isabel explained."This program hires local high school students to work at the West Broad community garden and farmer's market as well as provides a variety of educational programs for them. As part of my internship, I researched the history of the West Broad Street School (where the garden and market is located) and created workshops based on the primary sources from my research."
