Awards for Undergraduates

Each year the faculty recognize outstanding history majors for their achievements in historical scholarship. The Department maintains a list of past winners here. Undergraduate student awards may range from $100 to $2000 depending on the award and available funds.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Any undergraduate history major can fill out an Application for the Study Abroad Scholarship to participate in an official UGA study abroad program. Applications due October 28 for spring study away and February 28 for summer programs and April 17 for fall programs.

Summer Program in Public History Scholarship 

The Summer Program in Public History scholarship is dedicated to helping defray the costs of students enrolled in the Department's Summer Program in Public History in Washington, D.C. Any history major can fill out an application for this scholarship as part of their application to the program. Application deadline: 1 February.

History Undergraduate Research Award 

Any undergraduate history major can fill out an Application for the Undergraduate Research Award to help fund research for a HIST 4990 senior seminar research paper, or for travel to present a history paper at a professional conference. Applications due October 1 for fall 4990s and conferences, and February 28 for spring 4990s and conferences or summer conference travel.

Presented to an outstanding undergraduate in a field other than U.S. history

Hostilo Family Scholarship in History
Presented to an outstanding undergraduate from a population that has been historically disadvantaged within the academic field of history

Joe Brown Connally Award
Presented to an outstanding junior who has demonstrated excellence in history and whose interests include Georgia history

Kay Parker Digital Humanities Award 
Presented annually for an outstanding undergraduate project in the digital humanities

  • 2025: Caleb Lee Delmarter

Outstanding History Major Award 
Presented to an outstanding senior history major for excellence in academics and classroom engagement.

Outstanding History Major Award - Phi Alpha Theta, Epsilon Pi.
Presented to a history major and member of the National History Honor Society in recognition of outstanding leadership and program engagement.
