2024-25 graduating History majors are invited to the annual History Department Graduation Reception the afternoon of May 9.

The reception will include our annual awards and graduation recognition, with a gift for each graduating senior in attendance. Opening remarks by Franklin College Dean Dr. Anna Stenport.

  • We would like to take a group photo of our prospective graduates following the awards in the auditorium. Students are welcome to bring/wear their gowns and or caps!
  • In addition, we would like to feature some of our student graduation photos in our program and /or social media.  To submit your photo for the program, please email a good resolution jpeg image to history@uga.edu. A likeness consent form must be attached from the student. If you have a FERPA restriction, it must be removed in order to appear in the program.

FAQ's:

Is there a dress code? No, but most students dress nicely as many will be attending Commencement later in the day.

Is this Commencement? No, check the UGA website commencement.uga.edu for information on the formal graduation ceremony. We will call the names of our graduating seniors at the awards ceremony, and have them walk to the podium to receive a small gift from the department in recognition of graduation.

When do I get my diploma? Diplomas are sent to all UGA graduates 6-8 weeks after Commencement - for more information go to commencement.uga,edu.

We will have prizes for the best decorated history graduation cap, so get creative!

Friday, May 9, 2025 – 12:00-1:30 PM.

A casual stand up buffet lunch will be offered in the exhibit hall outside of the auditorium so guests can mingle following the awards and recognition. (No food or drinks are allowed in the auditorium).
