Announcing the Washington Summer Program in Public History

This summer the Department of History launches its Summer Program in Public History in Washington, DC. Students will earn credit for their degree from coursework and internship participation. During Maymester, students will take HIST 4027: American Museums, Parks, and Monuments as an introduction to the field of Public History. McGuire's Civil War class visits Chicamauga

On Saturday, October 25, ten members of Sam McGuire’s Civil War class took part in a voluntary field trip to Chickamauga National Military Park. Chief park historian, Jim Ogden provided a four-hour educational program and guided tour of the battlefield. Jacob McClendon recalled the tour “made me proud to be a History major” and that “going to the battlefield was a chance to come as close to reliving the actual battle” as possible. Thomas…
