Matthew Hulbert's ('15) doctoral dissertation "Guerrilla Memory: Irregular Recollections from the Civil War Borderlands" has won the 2015 Lewis Eldon Atherton Prize from the State Historical Society of Missouri (awarded to the best dissertation in Missouri history or biography). James Gigantino (Ph.D. History, 2010, UGA) and author of a new book The Ragged Road to Abolition: Slavery and Freedom in New Jersey 1775-1865, was recently quoted in Salon, an on-line magazine, in yesterday's article "Secret history of a northern slave state: How slavery was written into New Jersey’s DNA" by Robert Hennelly.

Tore Olsson, recent Ph.D., won two dissertation prizes this week: the 2014 Gilbert C. Fite Award for Best Dissertation from the Agricultural History Society and the Oxford University Press USA Dissertation Prize in International History from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.
