HIST4371

The Medieval Mind
Credit Hours:
3 hours

Brains and culture are the big questions of this course: how did they both work in the Middle Ages? Medieval thinkers used their minds in different ways than we do. They treated the brain like a muscle that required conditioning and training in order to improve concentration, memory, and creative cognition. This class experiments with that neuroscience and explores its impact on medieval forms of truth, ethics, media culture, and power.
