Graduate Student Hannah Alfieri studies the history of the geosciences in the American West. Alfieri aims to use explorations as a vehicle to understand the relationship between scientific knowledge production and intercultural interactions. Alfieri completed her undergraduate degree in 2026 at the University of Florida and majored in history and geology. Previous research topics include John Wesley Powell’s life and geologic knowledge production during the Civil War. Research Research Areas: U.S. West Science and Technology Cultural & Intellectual Native American U.S. 19th & 20th Century Research Interests: Alfieri is interested in 19th century paleontology expeditions in the United States West. In particular, she aims to understand the relationship between exploration, Native/settler relationships, and scientific knowledge production.
