Graduate Student Terrell Orr is a PhD candidate studying the US South from a global perspective. He is particularly interested in how capitalist transformations of agriculture, from emancipation to the Green Revolution, have divided and united farmworkers and growers in the US South, the Caribbean, and Latin America. His dissertation research focuses on labor and capital in Florida and São Paulo’s intertwined citrus industries and will be supported by the SSRC's Mellon IDRF and the Fulbright-Hays DDRA fellowship, with an affiliation at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas. He has an article published in Southern Cultures (Winter 2019) on the United Farm Workers' organization of Florida grove workers during the 1970s and ‘80s and has presented his research at conferences of the American Historical Association, the Agricultural History Society, the Labor and Working-Class History Association, and Harvard University's CON-IH.
