Join us as Dr. Emily Taylor Smith asks, What's natural about childbirth?

Dr. Smith is a historian of women, gender, sexuality, and religion in twentieth-century America. Her research focuses on Catholic women and mid-century debates over contraception, abortion, and motherhood. After graduating from Kalamazoo College, she earned a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD in History from the University of Notre Dame.

Before joining UGA’s faculty, Dr. Smith taught at the University of Notre Dame, St. Mary’s College, Wabash College, and Albion College. In her classes, Dr. Smith prioritizes learning through primary source analysis—students should expect to think creatively about texts, images, films, music, and more.
