"Museum Studies in Italy" is a 12-day intensive study abroad program based in Rome and Florence led by Dr. Danielle Raad, Assistant Professor of Museum Studies and History. Students enroll in the 3-credit course "Italy and the Modern Museum" (MUSE 4405/6405), designed for both undergraduate and graduate students.

We explore the origins of the modern museum through immersive site visits to some of the world’s earliest public museums. Students will engage deeply with institutions such as the Capitoline Museums, Vatican Museums, Uffizi Gallery, and Galleria dell’Accademia. Guided tours and structured discussions will illuminate how Italy shaped the development of museum practices, public exhibition spaces, and global models of collecting.
