Claudio Saunt awarded 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship Thursday, April 14, 2022 - Claudio Saunt, Regents’ Professor and Russell Professor of American History in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded a 2022 Fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. DigiLab Colloquium: A Journey to "Wonderland" - Tourism in Late 19th-Century Yellowstone Using StoryMapsJS, Monica Berg will present her historical research into the early years of tourism in Yellowstone National Park. She will take attendees back to the late 19th century, showing them what a typical tourist at this time could find themselves seeing and doing on a trip out West. Monica Berg is a fourth-year History and German double major at the University of Georgia. She is also earning certificates in Museum Studies and Digital Humanities. Terrell James Orr Receives 2022 John Higham Research Fellowship from the Organization of American Historians BLOOMINGTON, IN—The Organization of American Historians (OAH) today announced that Terrell James Orr, University of Georgia, is recipient of an OAH 2022 John Higham Research Fellowship, which is given annually to graduate students writing doctoral dissertations for a Ph.D. in American history. The Fellowship was announced during the OAH’s 2022 Conference on American History. Join us as a coterie of UGA history majors presents the results of their senior seminar research into the environmental histories of the Georgia coast. Their aim is not only to explore coastal history per se, but to look for a “usable past” as we face the future. What environmental challenges have plagued the coast in the past, and how did people deal with them? Did they deal with them successfully? Who benefited-- and who didn’t– as a result?
