Convict Labor And The Practice Of Punishment In America,” Dr. Mary Ellen Curtin, associate professor of history at American University. The lecture will explore the history of forced labor as legal punishment for men and women, black and white. The event is co-sponsored by Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, Department of English, Department of History, the Institute for African American Studies, and the Institute for Women's Studies.
