Matthew Hulbert's ('15) doctoral dissertation "Guerrilla Memory: Irregular Recollections from the Civil War Borderlands" has won the 2015 Lewis Eldon Atherton Prize from the State Historical Society of Missouri (awarded to the best dissertation in Missouri history or biography).

Derek Bentley, a doctoral candidate in history, has been awarded a Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship for the academic year 2015-16, through UGA's Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) and the State Department of Education.

Ph.D. candidate (history) James Wall has been awarded the Phelps-Stokes Graduate Fellowship for the 2015-16 academic year. This fellowship was established in 1911 by the authorization of a monetary gift to the University of Georgia from the Phelps-Stokes Fund.

Each year, the UGA Alumni Association recognizes 40 of the university's most outstanding graduates under the age of 40. Nearly 500 young professionals were nominated for this distinction this year.
